UCLA Extension's 2011 Winter Session is offering a New Online Course called

This is being offered as an online course with an optional live 2-hour work session at mid-semester. This means you will be able to login and participate at your convenience from the comfort of your home.
For more information or to register, visit UCLA Extension at
This course uses anthropological observation techniques to obtain an informed understanding of the end user. Topics include user research, techniques used in evaluating cultural structures and values, prototype creation, and using anthropological observation techniques to develop a creative brief. Projects demonstrate an understanding of the cultural context of the target audience and thorough research based on anthropological principles. The course is open to all aspiring and practicing professionals such as Visual Communicators, Architects, Engineers, Social workers, Branding strategists and other marketing professionals whose goal is to ensure an optimal experience for the end user.
Formal training in communications and product design is helpful but not required; familiarity with creative software (Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Maya, Lightwave, 3Dmax) and/or experience with sketching, building prototypes and comps will be very helpful.
This online course will be facilitated by Zelda Harrison, consultant with 15 years’ experience in marketing and visual communications whose client list includes the City of Los Angeles, Plitt Entertainment Group, Warner Bros, Fox, PBS, Sargent & Berman, and Sussman/Prejza; She also served as President of the AIGA Center for Cross-Cultural Design, and is currently Ambassador for INDIGO (International Indigenous Design Network), an Icograda initiative.
